Zune Music Downloads

There are many digital music distributors online but one of the most recent entrants to the digital distribution era is Microsoft with its Zune MP3 player and digital download service. If you have a Zune MP3 player you’ll probably want to download songs for it as soon as possible. However, you may not know the best place from which to get the songs you want. In this article we’ll look at the ways you can get downloaded music onto your MP3 player as well as where to get it from and how to get it cheap.
Many people have heard of iTunes, Amazon and HMV – all places where you can download music, games, videos, and so on for use on portable devices such as an MP3 player. One of the newest services is Microsoft’s Zune Marketplace which rivals the existing companies in providing digital products for download onto portable devices. The marketplace offers you access to hundreds of thousands of songs but with price tags of $0.99 and upwards downloading hundreds of songs could quickly rack up a massive bill.
One popular option to overcome this problem is to look for the free download services. Whilst these free sites allow you to obtain as much music as you want you will be risking your computer’s safety by exposing it to malware, adware, and other malicious software which all create problems on your computer.
A better option is to rip music from CD onto your MP3 player. CDs give you legitimate access to music so you won’t be at threat from malicious software when using them. However, this is still an expensive way to obtain music as CDs cost as much, if not more, than music from the marketplace. However, it is an easy process which we can look at here.
Firstly you have to put the CD of your choice into your PC and run it using any of the available media player software. Then you can click on the button which reads “rip” to begin transferring the music on the disc onto your PC. If you’re using Windows Media Player you’ll find that the music is automatically placed into the media player library. Then you can plug your MP3 player into your PC and select “synchronize” from the options on the media player. This automatically transfers the music on your PC onto your Zune music player.
If the synchronize feature doesn’t work properly it isn’t usually a problem as you can drag and drop the music files directly onto the Zune’s memory. Ensure that the files you copy onto the Zune are compatible formats such as MP3, and WMA.
Another option is to use subscription services to download music from. Services such as Napster provide unlimited music downloads for a monthly subscription fee. This allows you to get hold of all the music you could possibly want and listen to it on your portable media player. These are fantastic services that offer music at incredibly good value that gets better the more you download.

How To Rent DVD Movies For Free

This is a guide to using DVD movie rental services to your advantage, eventually getting free rentals completely legitimately. This is not a fool-proof method and will require a little effort on your behalf, but it is well worth it if you are a movie lover.
Many online DVD rentals services offer a number of different subscription options. The option you choose will depend on how many movies you want to watch each month, though there is nearly always a free trials for testing out these packages to see if they are for you.
Enjoy Your Free Trial
In order to be able to rent free DVD movies you will need to sign up for a free trial at any of these online rental services. But before signing up, make sure that they have a scheme that gives you rewards (i.e. free rentals) for getting your friends to sign up with them as this is the main way in which you are going to get free DVD rentals.
Once you have signed up for the rentals service you can enjoy as many DVD movies as your free trial allows, simply returning them when you are finished. However, you should bear in mind that these free trials usually last a number of days or weeks so you will not be able to enjoy your DVDs for long before you start paying – unless you invite some friends to the service.
Start Signing Up Friends
Whilst it may sound easy getting your friends to sign up under your name so you can benefit from free rental months, it can sometimes be hard to find friends who would be interested. Here are some quick ideas for getting others to sign up using your link:
1) Your Facebook Account – You probably have links to many of your friends on here, so why not recommend to them that they sign up for the service. If you are enjoying your trial you can recommend it to them, and even come clean and say you will get free rentals if they use your link. Many of them may have already been thinking about signing up to an online rentals service anyway, so will be happy to click on your message.
2) Give It As A Gift – You can sign up on somebody else’s behalf (say a family member) and give them a few months paid on the rental service as a gift. This makes birthdays and Christmas easy, as well as a guaranteed sign-up under your link!
3) Write Reviews of the Service – If you have a blog or if you visit sites that hold online service reviews why not add one of your own? Write something about the service, state why online rentals are better than store rentals… anything that makes the service sound appealing to those that use it. If people click through and sign up from your link you will have yet more referrals and free months.
4) Write Movie Reviews – This is a great idea as you can do this as many times as you want for any movie you like. At the end of the review simply include a link as to where to rent it!
Getting friends or internet users to sign up to the service through your link is a great legitimate way to benefit from some free rentals of movies or documentaries. You will soon be able to watch as many as you like for nothing at all!

Superman vs. Bing Visual Search

The other day, I had an image in my mind of a strange object and I wanted to find a picture of it online. The only problem was I didn’t have a clue what it was called. The image in my head was of a scene in “Superman II” when General Zod’s henchman Non is in the Oval Office and he’s staring intently at something. It’s five metal balls tied to strings in a row and the ones on either end keep hitting the four still balls, causing the ball on the other end to bounce away and come back again.

Maybe you already know what I’m talking about.

I turned to one of my coworkers here at eHarbor, Inc. and asked her to help me. She could picture it, as well, but she couldn’t put her finger on the name. I tried searching for “metal ball attached to strings hitting each other” on Google, but I didn’t find what I was looking for. Luckily, my resourceful coworker found it on Amazon.com, I believe. I could now put a name to an image – Newton’s cradle!

This story illustrates my need for a visual search engine and not simply a text-based one. Luckily, Microsoft and Google are both heading in that direction. I read about their efforts in a CNN article entitled, “Microsoft, Google expand search-engine tools.”

None of the Bing Visual Search galleries look like they would help me find Newton’s cradle because they mostly include people, entertainment and electronics. But it’s new, so I’m willing to cut Microsoft some slack. I’m sure they will get better as they get a feel for what people are (literally) looking for.

Microsoft is still trying hard to break Google’s domination of the search-engine market. The CNN article cited a comScore study showing that, in June, about 65 percent of online searches were done through Google, while just 8.4 percent were done through Bing.

I’ve talked about the race between Microsoft and Google to develop a stronghold over a variety of online and software industries before. You can read about it in my blog entry, “Google-Microsoft face-off good for ecommerce.” Their rivalry is bringing great innovations like these visual search engines. I’ll hopefully talk more about Google’s Fast Flip in a forthcoming blog entry. For now, I’ll say adieu.

Angels & Demons Movie Review

Hanks returns as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon who is jetted off to the Vatican to solve the mystery of four kidnapped cardinals, all of which are in the running to become the next Pope and all of which will be publicly executed on the hour, every hour, until the bell tolls at midnight. Not only that, but a bomb of anti-matter has been stolen and will explode at the same time, destroying the city. Theories abound as to who is behind it and clues give the nod to The Illuminati, a secret society dedicated to science and determined to take revenge on the church for its persecution of its members centuries before. Helping Langdon solve the clues are physicist and eye candy Vittoria Vetra (Zurer) and Camerlengo Patrick McKenna (McGregor), a young Vatican priest in charge while the cardinals are in conclave voting on the next Pope, but time is running out…   For the first hour-and-a-half, Angels And Demons rights the wrongs that damned The Da Vinci Code. Gone are the heavy exposition scenes, where everything slowed down to tell the audience what is going on (and then stalled completely to make sure everyone ‘got’ it). Gone too are the dodgy ‘Get me to a library. Fast!’ lines. Unburdened by its heavy plot of searching for Jesus’s ancestor for a more streamlined ‘believable’ thriller, this sequel moves more freely and seems to enjoy itself. It can be also quite gruesome with the Illuminati’s assassin indulging in Se7en-like executions. The performances are somewhat better, too. All of this is good.

“The Torturer”: A Terrifying New Thriller starring Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura, ‘Star Trek’!)

The Torturer, starring Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek’s Lt. Uhura), released Oct. 20, 2009, is an unstinting look at what happens when a special interrogator, trained in Iraq and suffering from acute PTSD, returns to civilian life and meets the girl next door.

Nichols plays Dr. Colleen Darnelle, a military psychologist trying desperately to re-integrate the Torturer, Rick (Andrew Walker, CSI: Miami) into polite society. Newcomer Mahsa Masoudi (Revenge of the Nerds, 2007) is also featured.

Full of unexpected plot twists and turns, interrogation has never seemed so up close and personal. You’ll sweat and shiver. You’ll feel chills. A scary and exciting mystery in a modern-noir Hitchock style. A thinking persons thriller. It’s like Dexter with military training, only what’s worse, it may already be happening!

SYNOPSIS:  You’re dragged from your house to a secret prison. You have no right to a lawyer or a speedy trial. You don’t know when–or if–you will ever be released. You don’t know who your captor is, if he’s legitimate, or what tools he will use to get what he wants. You’re hooded, frozen, stripped, probed, and sexually humiliated. The deeper he goes the more you doubt your own sanity, and his. Only one thing is certain…In a Post-9/11 World, No One Can Hear You SCREAM!

“Radio” Is One of the Most Under-Rated and Under-Appreciated Films in Movie History

Copyright © 2009 Ed Bagley

Radio – 4 Stars (Excellent)

“Radio”?the true story of high school football coach Harold Jones and a mentally-challenged young man named James Robert “Radio” Kennedy?might well be one of the most under-rated and under-appreciated movies in film history.

James Kennedy was nicknamed “Radio” by the townspeople of Anderson, South Carolina because he was always listening to discarded radios. As a youth he would push or ride a grocery cart down the street, talking to no one. It was 1976 and Radio did not attend school because he was mentally challenged, and an easy target for kids more fortunate.

After some football players on coach Harold Jones’ T. L. Hanna High School team harass, intimidate and scare the living daylights out of Radio (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.), Jones befriends and protects Radio by slowly winning his trust and inviting him to the team’s football practices.

Coach Jones (played magnificently by veteran actor Ed Harris) eventually has Radio helping out as a “coach” and sitting on the bench during the games. When Radio’s new-found acceptance leads to his self-image and self-confidence rising, his enthusiasm creates a distraction for the team at a critical moment, and some boosters (like the father of a star player) want Radio gone.

Fortunately for Radio, his unpretentious love and loyalty to the coach and players resonates, and Radio is allowed to remain part of both the team and the school. At this point in time, Radio is attending school, not as a student, but as a positive influence on the students and a welcome school-helper.

All of this is reminiscent of the biblical admonition “if you hear His voice today, harden not your heart.” Radio is about love, acceptance, approval, understanding, compassion, kindness, loyalty and finding peace in our time.

Radio the movie was inspired by Gary Smith’s 1996 article titled “Someone to Lean On” that first appeared in Sports Illustrated magazine. The film benefits greatly from the script by Mike Rich and direction by Mike Tollin, also one of the producers with Herb Gains and Brian O’keefe. Radio managed to generate $52+ million at the box office, but received mixed positive and negative reviews by the critics (of which I am one).

Radio was a terrific movie with a genuine message of value. Radio gets a positive answer to my most searching question as a movie reviewer: Am I a better person for having seen this film? You better believe it.

I am incensed that Radio was absolutely snubbed at major awards time. It is not like Ed Harris is a nobody. Before Radio was made, Ed Harris had been nominated for 3 Oscars as Best Supporting Actor (”The Hours”, “The Truman Show” and “Apollo”) and been nominated for Best Actor in “Pollock”. Add to those honors 4 nominations by the Golden Globes and a Best Actor Golden Globe for The Truman Show.

Cuba Gooding Jr. had won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor in “Jerry Maguire” (remember his famous line “Show me the money”), and was nominated for a Golden Globe for the same award.

The really good news about Radio is that Radio is still helping coach the Hanna High School team and bringing his presence to the school. He remains a story that continues to grow and radiate with positive vibes.

How to Rent DVD Movies Online

If you are a avid movie fan then you probably enjoy renting DVD movies. However, renting online rather than shops is fast becoming the most popular method for movie lovers. If you are unsure of renting your DVD movies on the internet, then here is a quick guide to doing so.
The Cost of Online Rentals
There are many different online rental services available, and the costs will always vary. They all offer various different packages and membership levels to suit different needs and budgets. For example, you may choose the lowest membership price which allows you to rent one DVD movie at a time. You may also find the most expensive packages allow you to rent perhaps 8-10 or even an unlimited number of DVD movies a month.
Waiting for Your Movie
Perhaps online DVD movie rental does not seem like a good idea due to the waiting times. However, you can choose your rental picks up to months in advance and the service will deliver them whenever you have a free rental slot open. This will work out even more speedy than rental stores, as you will no longer have to drive to pick up your titles or worry about them being in stock. Most services will use fast shipping to make sure your DVD movies are always delivered on time.
Watch Movies Instantly
Though all movies can be delivered as DVDs, rental services nowadays are also offering instant online movie viewing. This means that you do not need to wait for your disc to arrive in the mail. Rather you can start watching movies at the click of a button! The number of movies you can watch as part of your membership will vary, as will the movie titles available via this method.
Buy Discounted DVDs
As well as rentals, most online services will also give you the option to purchase DVDs directly from their website. You can usually make big savings here since these DVD movies have been used before and as such are greatly reduced in price. You could be saving around half the cost of the brand new DVD, which is great if you come across a movie that you feel like watching over and over again.
Movie Reviews and Recommendations
Movie rental services can even send you personalised recommendations to help you discover new movies. This is great for movie lovers, though if you want to choose the movies yourself then simply read the reviews to decide on which movies to watch. These sites benefit from both official and user reviews to help you make your decision. Online reviews and rental services can really open your eyes to movies you would never have considered before.
As you can see, there are many benefits to using an online DVD movie rental service over a traditional store, and it is extremely easy to get started and benefit from the great choice available! Many of these rental services even offer a free trial so you can decide for yourself whether the service is right for you.
